The Project: Hanford Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant (WTP)
The Bechtel team is responsible for the design, construction, and commissioning of the world's largest and most technically sophisticated radioactive waste treatment plant (WTP) at the U.S. Department of Energy Hanford Site in Washington State. This first-of-a-kind project will use vitrification to transform 53 million gallons of radioactive and chemical waste into and immobile glass form. The waste is stored in 177 aging underground tanks accumulated between 1944 and 1989, when plutonium and other nuclear materials were produced for national defense. The plant will include three major nuclear process facilities and a laboratory: a Pretreatment Facility, a High-Level Waste Vitrification Facility, a Low-Activity Waste Vitrification Facility, and an Analytical Laboratory.
WTP Project Mechanical Functional Manager Scope
You will be working as part of the Engineering team designing the fluid and gas systems in the WTP process facilities. You will report to the Manager of Engineering Functions in the Central Engineering Group and provide functional management of the Mechanical Discipline, including Mechanical Systems, HVAC, Fire Protection, vessel analysis engineers, procurement engineers, and designers located at WTP. This position also supervises the Material Engineering Technology (MET) Group and the Central Engineering Mechanical Systems Group. This position oversees the work process execution for the Mechanical Function and assures technical adequacy in accordance with company, contract, and industry codes and standard. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in process and nuclear system design. You will be interfacing and coordinating with other engineering disciplines and the client in addressing technical issues and advancing the detailed design, procurement, and construction.
Mechanical Functional Manager Scope Job Details
The Mechanical Functional Manager scope includes overseeing the discipline work process execution to assure technical adequacy in accordance with company, contract, and industry standards. This position supports the BSII Mechanical Chief Engineer in functional-related matters at the WTP, including technical support and comment resolution of offsite reviews, identifying staffing requirements, performing interviews, and providing personnel performance input and review. This position supervises the MET group, including equipment material selection and review of welding procedures. The Mechanical Functional Manager provides oversight and review of Mechanical related cost and schedule proposals. The Mechanical Functional Manager assures the work performed by the Mechanical and MET is executed with the high quality standards for nuclear facilities. In addition, it will be required that the candidate have excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) and can be the face of Bechtel promoting our leadership, quality, and safety values to external partners, including vendors, construction companies, and other subcontractors.
Basic Qualifications
BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering from an accredited university or college with 13 years of progressive related experience.
Related experience includes, but is not limited to, experience in Piping and Instrument Diagram (P&ID;) development fluid system design, hydraulic, heat transfer, and thermodynamic calculations, and equipment specification, including material selection, for waste processing, nuclear, refinery, power, or chemical process facilities.
Experience in working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ASME-NQA-1, MIL-Q-9858A, or ISO-9000.
Must have or be capable of obtaining a U.S. Professional Engineering License, and Bechtel Certification as a Supervisor or Project Engineer, within 12 months of hire.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards
Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Preferred Qualifications
Professional Engineering License
Experience in fluid system design in a DOE or commercial nuclear facilities.
Knowledge of Bechtel Corporate guides and standards.
Possess the legal right to work and remain in the US without sponsorship
Previous experience leading production design teams developing P&IDs;, MFDs, MHDs, equipment sizing calculations, and system design discriptions for an EPC project.
Previous experience with Bechtels Design Review Notice Process and Bechtels employee ranking process.
Existing Bechtel certification (B-Cert).
